Meet Your Hosts: Scott and Karen Brown

Scott and his wife Karen are the 4th generation on 'Grovedale'. Not afraid to challenge tradition, Scott has a history of adapting his business, adjusting from a breeding herd to trade cattle, while the self-replacing Merino enterprise has evolved with a focus on improving reproductive performance. He’s currently running over 4,000 head including Merino sheep and Angus heifers on 772 hectares.

Scott operates by a simple motto: ‘more testing, less guessing’. He is committed to optimising his grazing practices for better on-farm results.

“Since experimenting with changes to grazing practices, I can really see how we’re managing grass better after 100 years of set stocking. For example, Phalaris was growing back in paddocks I didn’t realise it had even been planted in, and some native species have also returned” - Scott Brown

See firsthand for yourself how Scott is improving pasture resilience and stock performance by attending the Grovedale field day on the 28th of October.

What You Can Expect on the Day

  • Walk the Paddocks with Scott: See how Scott is using rotational grazing to revitalise pastures that were traditionally set-stocked. Learn how this approach has extended feed on offer, brought back productive species, and is reducing input costs.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Find out how Scott uses MaiaGrazing to record, plan, and forecast his grazing and feed availability. This approach helps him make informed management decisions that maximise grazing efficiency, in line with his motto of ‘more testing, less guessing’.
  • Deep Dive with Atlas Carbon Experts: Discover the science behind building soil carbon. Our team of specialists at Atlas Carbon will explain how they ground-truth a project's potential by taking soil and pasture samples on-farm.
  • See the Measurement Process: Get a close-up look at how soil metrics are accurately measured. You'll see a live demonstration of collecting a soil core and hear from our experts about the on-farm due diligence Atlas Carbon undertakes to assess a property's potential for enhanced production and soil health.
